A former colleague and teammate of mine is now working offshore. She then was assigned in the US for a couple of weeks. I asked her how did she find Michigan and living in the US then?

She said she thinks she likes Singapore better. She finds living in the US too lonely and too hectic and too pressing. I would agree. I was once in Michigan myself and pressing it was. You don’t know your neighbors and you can’t just met friends anytime and you have to know how to drive. Driving is a necessity. And I don’t think I’m a fan of driving. I would rather join the heap of passengers in Singapore running on peak hours so as not to miss the bus and trains. (Though driving a sports car or an suv is super cool though!) SG is also just a four-hour plane trip from the Philippines. Literally, one can just go home one weekend, anytime.

So, what’s the catch? What’s the big but? I prefer living in a community, residential houses. Not in buildings and condominiums. I want to live in a house - in a house where I can decorate and do much inside and outside of it. I’m imagining a bay window with wood blinds or dainty curtains on it. Oh, aint’ that pretty? I also want to have a garden! And a swing. And a veranda.

On another note, If I have to go to Singapore now, I wouldn’t say no. I would take the opportunity to live there and meet my friends, former classmates and colleagues. Maybe, I’d learn to embrace living in buildings in time. ;)
